Assembly race pits established incumbent against progressive activist -
Times Union
Wendy Liberatore - October 19, 2020

“Seeman said that top issues he wants to fight for — health care for all, protecting the environment, ‘green’ jobs, equity in education, getting money out of politics and taxing the richest one percent — touches on the national conversation. But he says, these are the issues New Yorkers are dealing with now, which Walsh hasn't addressed.

‘The Assembly seat is held by someone who collects a salary and hasn’t done anything whatsoever of substance,’ Seeman said. ‘I respect Mary Beth Walsh. I have nothing against her personally. But we need someone who is going to fight for them.’”

Viewpoint: Access to health care is a human right - Times Union
Joe Seeman - October 19, 2020

“The pandemic has made it abundantly clear that the United States’ health care system is broken. COVID-19 will continue to devastate our health care system and bankrupt people who lose their jobs and coverage and become ill. It’s clearly time for reform.

Our health care system was inadequate even before this pandemic revealed the depth and breadth of its failings. Around half of Americans receive health coverage through their employer, and in the past few months we have seen record numbers of us filing for unemployment. In mid-July, 5.4 million people lost their insurance. Here in the Capital Region, unemployment peaked this year at 55,600 in April, and in August still stood at 40,000 individuals who have lost not only their jobs but in many cases their employment-sponsored health care.”

Activist Joe Seeman has organized demonstrations and protests across the Capital Region for years, and in January announced his candidacy for state Assembly.

The Ballston Spa Democrat is framing his run around the presidential election. Seeman asks supporters to vote ‘Joe to Joe,’ referencing Vice President Biden, and has been trying to tie incumbent Republican Mary Beth Walsh to President Donald Trump.”

Seeman outraises Walsh in 112th district race- Times Union
Wendy Liberatore - October 7, 2020

“Joe Seeman, the Working Families/Democratic candidate for the 112th state Assembly seat, is outraising Republican incumbent Mary Beth Walsh by a more than two to one margin, something Seeman says he didn't expect.

State Board of Elections filings show that since Jan. 1, the Seeman campaign has raised $82,445 from 1,298 donors, while Walsh (R-Ballston) has brought in $38,466 from 174 donors.

‘When I entered the race, everyone told me I was crazy,” Seeman said. “You’ll be lucky to raise $20,000. Walsh has deep pockets. Walsh is an insider. I heard it over and over. But we outraised her. We demolished her.’”

Activist Joe Seeman Enters State Assembly Race - WAMC
Lucas Willard - January 10, 2020

“A well-known progressive activist is running for a New York State Assembly seat in Schenectady and Saratoga counties.

Joe Seeman is a common sight at political protests. He’s perhaps best known in the greater Capital Region as organizing outside of Republican Congresswoman Elise Stefanik’s District Office in Glens Falls.

Earlier this week, Seeman announced his intention to run for New York’s 112th Assembly District.

‘I’m running to be a voice for the average people, the people of Saratoga and Schenectady Counties, for the 99 percent – not for the richest one percent, for Wall Street, for big corporations.’”
